Tables of Elements...again

2/27/2020

I stumbled across this gem of a website from TED where it has videos to show, explain, and demonstrate with the different elements from the periodic table.  Fantastic!

There's also this dynamic periodic table you can interact with to learn more about the elements.

Cathedral Grove

2/6/2020

This past summer, I took a trip to the island and made several stops on the way.  One of them was to Cathedral Grove, just west of Coombs (Goats of Roofs!) on Vancouver Island.  Of course...there were pictures

Australia is on fire

1/7/2020

Australia is on fire - it's their summer, there has been a drought, high winds...and the fires have created their own weather systems that have spawned lightning storms that have lead to more fires...

Volcanoes....no laughing matter!

Before my time (yes, really), Mount St Helen's erupted:

Ash can cover and solidify organic material and create fossils, like the remains found in the lost city of Pompeii.

New Year, new topics!

9/24/2019

Welcome back, all!

We've been discussing evolution, natural selection, and mutation in our latest science classes.  What perfect timing for the world to reveal a rare anomaly through natural mutation in the form of the 'spotted' zebra foal!

Forces, Forces, Everywhere!

5/22/2019

s and gymnasticsGravity is always 'on'...you don't need to check.  :D

We have been talking about the various forces and Newton's Three Laws:

  1. Every object in a state of uniform motion will remain in that state of motion unless an external force acts on it.

  2. Force equals mass times acceleration [  ].

  3. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Some of these laws can be explained in the following videos where ballet, gymnastics, and roller coasters are closely examined through a lens of science and forces.
