Our class has been working on 'close reading'. What's that, you might ask? It's the careful reading of text for deeper understanding of what's going on in the story and with the characters.
Each student received a laminated bookmark to keep with them while they read that has a list of all six signposts. If they have lost it, you can download the document here and print more off.
As students read, they need to keep these signposts in mind. When they NOTICE them, they need to stop and take NOTE of them and answer the accompanying questions that go with the signpost.

We have also been writing down notes on the stories I have read to the class using our Notice and Note Log. Under the 'Notes About It' section, I have told students to answer the Notice and Note signpost questions they have on their bookmarks (and on the large posters in the classroom that have been up for over a month).
